Identifying root cause events in the event list

In a virtualized environment, Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus can correlate events to determine which events are the root cause of other, symptom events. In the event list, you can identify the root cause event behind symptom events if this feature is enabled on your system.

Before you begin

Make sure that the CauseType field and the ParentIdentifier field are added to your view. Optionally, the ParentServerSerial field can also be added. Symptom events have a CauseType value of Symptom.

About this task

By default, symptom events have a Warning severity level, whereas root cause events have a Critical severity level.

Procedure

To identify the root cause of a symptom event, in the event list right-click a single symptom event and click Show Root Cause. If you select more than one symptom event, only the root cause event of the first event in the selection is shown.

A new event list opens, displaying the root cause event. The value of the CauseType field is RootCause.
